Making Summer Vacation Plans? I Dig This Idea

On April 10, 2014 by MMM

Sure, you could go fight the crowds at Disneyland, or spend the summer watching your teenagers stare at video screens, or you could do something crazy cool:

There is a project going on Nauvoo, where archeologists are trying to locate the house where Joseph Smith’s parents lived. (Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith.)

Yes, that is cool, but the even cooler part is that you and your family and/or friends can go work there this summer. Digging in the dirt, finding treasures from the past – yes a veritable Mormon Indiana Jones. You can even choose to stay in the Historic Nauvoo house while you are there.

Looks like a vacation that would be a great mix of Church education, hard work, learning and spirituality. Much to learn, especially if you haven’t had the experience of spending any time in Nauvoo.

If you do go, let me know how it goes! And send pics!
